So I finished reading The Alchemyst about Nicholas Flamel and fraternal twins who may be the key to either saving or destroying the world as we know it. It was a fun fast read. As a mythology buff, all the name-dropping was interesting. Talking about this book at book club should be fun.

I'm now moving on to Ilium by Dan Simmons, another mythology-heavy tome, on the recommendation of G.

Slightly off topic, but I sat down and read 2 issues of Science Illustrated, 1 issue of Discover, and 1 issue of Mental Floss. I've come to the conclusion that I'll let my Discover subscription lapse as I prefer the "illustrations" and explanations in Science Illustrated more. And Mental Floss is love!

So I picked up and finished Angels in America, the play that was turned into an HBO miniseries. Very good.

I finished reading The Historian over the weekend. What a fabulous read! Lovely pacing, atmosphere, and tone. It really sucks you in, and I love the open ending. I love historical fiction and this really fits the bill. I totally recommend it.

I've also read some more of Cheryl's Escorts Entangled.

I finished reading The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter. The first short story in this diminutive book of the same name as the title was gorgeous! Sensual, dark, erotic, it was a beautiful take on the Bluebeard tale. The rest of the short stories, based on other fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, etc. were good, but didn't have the intensity and immediacy of the first.

I'm up to Chapter 29 of The Bracelet.

I've also started reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I'm about 9 chapters in and I'm hooked. Beautifully written; I love the nostalgic feel and pace of it so far. I hope it pays off.

I finished Pay Dirt by Rita Mae Brown. I love her Mrs. Murphy and Tee Tucker series of small-town Virginia murder mysteries. Come on, the sleuths are a tiger cat and a Pembroke Welsh corgi; how awesome is that! :) The people are pretty cool too; very down-to-earth and real. I've read four or five others from this series and they never disappoint.

Finished reading Maids: An Erotic Anthology. It was a romp through time, both in literature and in drawings/photos, of maids. I quite liked China Hamilton's photos. He's got a good eye. I actually wouldn't mind buying a book of his photos,...and some of those maid outfits too.

Finished reading alohachary1851's 14 chapter The Mating of the Wersh. Great little Marauder-era story based on the Taming of the Shrew. Funny and well-characterized.

Also read up to Chapter 23 of The Bracelet, and Chapter 2 of Escorts Entangled.

Read through Chapter 14 of Ehmaz's Moonflowers. Such a great SS/HG story, funny and hot, with a delicious Lucius and very funny (stoned puppy-wolf) Lupin!
